Global Ministries Names James Semmelroth Darnell as International Recruitment and Training Coordinator

Global Ministries is pleased to announce that Rev. James Semmelroth Darnell has joined staff as the International Recruitment and Training Coordinator. His primary responsibilities will include recruiting and training of mission co-workers.

James shares, “I am delighted to join the staff of Global Ministries as the International Recruitment and Training Coordinator. I am looking forward to discerning with members of the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) their calling to serve as mission co-workers, global mission interns, and volunteers. This is vital work that reminds us of the global nature of the Church. My hope is that my ministry will contribute to living into our shared mission and mutuality as the universal Church.”

He continues, “Our mission co-workers walk alongside our global partners in accompaniment. To willingly enter into this work, stepping into a foreign culture and context, takes humility, courage, and a call from God. I am deeply grateful for how our mission co-workers respond to that call.”

James was the senior pastor of David’s United Church of Christ in Canal Winchester, Ohio from 2019 – 2023. He previously served as the pastor of Warwick United Church of Christ in Newport News, Virginia, and St. John United Church of Christ in St. Clair, Missouri. He also worked in fundraising in Washington DC for over a decade.

James is a graduate of Illinois State University (BA, theater history, 2006) and Wesley Theological Seminary (MDiv, 2011). He was ordained a minister in the United Church of Christ in 2011 at The United Church + Die Vereinigte Kirche in Washington DC. He serves on the United Church of Christ Historical Council and board of directors of the Evangelical & Reformed Historical Society. His hobbies include theater, film, old time radio, German culture, and history.
