BIBLE TEXT

Galatians 5: 22-23

“God’s Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.”

MATERIALS NEEDED:

A fluffy feather for each child. These can be purchased in most craft stores.

Christians in Chile often say, “God touched me, and so I helped someone else.” What do you think it must feel like when God touches us? God’s touch must be tender making us feel loving, happy, and peaceful as it says in this Bible text in Galatians. I think that God wants to touch others through our patience, kindness, and goodness. We have so many examples today of people being rough, discourteous, or even violent with each other, that we as Christians need to practice sharing God’s gentle touch. I think that my work as a missionary often is simply sharing with someone else the tenderness that I have felt from God who loves and cares about each of us.

I have a feather for each of you. In a moment, I am going to ask you to pair up with someone. One partner will close his or her eyes, and the other will gently “paint” the face of the partner who has his or her eyes closed. The person who “paints” with the feather will imagine that he or she has been asked to share God’s tender touch. The person whose face is “painted” will imagine that God’s gentle touch is preparing him or her to be kind to someone else. After a few minutes, I will ask you to switch places and the person who “painted” will close his or her eyes, and the person who has already felt the gentle sweeping of the feather, will “paint.” Remember to be gentle and tender!

Every one of us can reach out to touch others with God’s goodness and tenderness. Remember that God’s spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. May you each be touched by God and so gently help someone else.
