Project Report 2006-2007

The Association of Evangelical Institutions of Honduras (AIEH) is the social program arm of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Honduras, a long-standing partner of Global Ministries for many years.  The following is the summary of a report received by AIEH about their outreach programs in years 2006 and the first semester of 2007.

Vocational Education
AIEH supports the Evangelical and Reformed Vocational Education Center (CEVER).  During the past 18 months the Evangelical Reformed Vocational Education Center (CEVER) graduated 92 students in the following vocational areas:

64    Industrial Mechanics
5      Woodworking
11    Sewing and Dress Design
12    Welding

Medical Department
The need for low or no cost medical care in Honduras is great.  AIEH operates clinics in Pinalejo, Santa Bárbara, Subirana, Yoro, Río Chiquito, Cortea, and Colonia Japón in Choloma.  In 2006 the total patients receiving medical attention were approximately 1,670, not including those who came to the clinics only to purchase medicines at a low cost.  The Subirana Yoro clinic sees the majority of the patients because it is staffed by a physician.  The other clinics are staffed by nurses.

The Medical Department was able to hold several medical brigades in which approximately 960 patients received care at no cost to them.  During the first five months of 2007, the clinics provided care to 869 patients.

Pastoral Care
In addition to the social services provided by AIEH, ministers and lay persons provide pastoral care and spiritual guidance.  In a country affected by frequent flooding, landslides, and heavy rains, the economy is hampered by poor roads, frequent rebuilding, and an inability to recover from one disaster before the next one hits.  The church is the place where most seek aid and refuge.  AIEH continues to move forward in an effort to support and provide for the poorest of the poor.
