On Thursday 12 September 2013, Mme Xuyen has come to introduce social work to a group of 16 young women at LDWDC.  This is the second group of new students who are disabled or having disabled relatives in the families.  They came from many provinces of Laos Khamuan Attapeu, Xayabury, bokeo and Vientian Province. There are 6 disabled women and 10 with disabled family members.

The first course of last year was initiated by Mme Chanhpeng and Ms. Phoutsady who went to the Philippines to study a short course on International Community Development and was very inspired by the social work and development.  They opened the first course and called it the Vocational and Social development course.  It is a 6 month long course.  Last year Mr. Thavone was an active member of the training team and Phoutsady were the main social development team members. The 13 students all graduated in January 2013 and went home except two students Ms. Pe Noi and Ms. Orathai who wished to learn more social work as they are exposed to the BSSD students who graduated from National University of Laos.  While waiting they are now in-charge of this second class , batch 11 if we count the total vocational courses held by LDWDC since 2002.  But, this is the second course of social development courses that were taught. The first day for me in 1 hour we were able to introduce ourselves as we also have Madame Rachel Dance of WIG who came for a study visit of LDWDC. Then we did some warm-up games and songs and we talked a just a little bit about Social work and why we need social workers.

Xuyen Dangers is a social work supervisor in Laos who trains Social work university students as interns in Donkoi Children Development Center.
