Litany from Fiji (Aaron Wiggins, Fiji)

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.

Lord, help us to remember the victims of the March 2011, nuclear power-plant disaster in Fukushima, Japan. For many the tragedy is still ongoing as efforts to reduce radiation levels are unfinished.

Oh Humanity, I am wholly me when you are wholly you.

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.

Almighty God, let us be forever conscious that the United States makes up 5% of the global population but consumes 25% of the world’s energy and 25% of the world’s natural resources. This disparity speaks to a global injustice.

Oh Humanity, I am wholly me when you are wholly you.

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.

God of Heaven and Earth, let us critically reflect on the philosophy of ‘nuclear deterrence’, which states that if a country possesses nuclear bombs, other nations will abstain from attacking.

Oh Humanity, I am wholly me when you are wholly you.

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.

God, we pray that the leaders and nations of the world, will wholeheartedly take sustainability practices and carbon pollution seriously.

Oh Humanity, I am wholly me when you are wholly you.

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.

Lord of Lords, help us to realize that our decisions to build bombs and pollute the earth will have lasting effects on our generation and generations to come. O God, help us to see that this earth and all that is in it is a gift from you and should, therefore, be treated with the highest regard in terms of stewardship.

Oh Humanity, I am because you are and I am wholly me when you are wholly you.
