Come to Washington, DC on April 30 for the Rally to Stop Genocide.

{mosimage}Join with millions of others this April 2006 to aid Darfur, Sudan! Together with the Dear Sudan Campaign and a diverse coalition, Global Ministries is supporting “Darfur Days of Conscience,” and especially encourages local communities and churches to highlight April 30 by holding events to draw attention to the ongoing genocide and plight of Sudan’s refugees.

Here are four ways that your community can be involved.

  • “A Million Voices for Darfur”  is a postcard campaign organized by the Save Darfur Coalition.  The goal is to generate one million hand-written and electronic postcards from Americans demanding that the United States government support a stronger multinational force to protect the civilians of Darfur.
  • Silent vigils. You can show your support for an end to the Darfur genocide by holding an interfaith silent vigil in your community on April 30, 2006. There will be a national silent vigil in Washington DC, along with many more across the country. This is an excellent opportunity for community education. Use the Faith Action Packet for ideas or contact www.dearsudan.org  for more information.
  • {mosimage}Lent study guide. “Ending Genocide: A Challenge of Conscience, A Movement of Hope”  is a 4-week exploration of the Darfur genocide in relation to our Christian faith. Each 1-hour session offers a different perspective, providing an opportunity to build our faith lives and congregational leadership.
  • Organize a Dear Sudan community. Visit Dear Sudan to learn about creating a broad-based community response to the Darfur genocide. This interfaith model, supported by UCC One Great Hour of Sharing and Disciples Week of Compassion, encourages community education, fundraising for humanitarian relief, and advocacy for peace and rebuilding in Sudan.

Let’s end the genocide now instead of apologizing for it later.
