Global Mission Interns

Matthew Fehse works alongside farmers in the Philippines as part of his service as a GMI.

“Becoming a GMI was a life changing experience. Along the way, my faith grew as I had to open myself up to discovering what parts of my faith were affected by my own culture, and how to open myself up to worshipping not only in other languages but with a spirit of unity, when traditions were different than my own. I went Bridgman ready to serve, but did not anticipate how so many young lives would affect my own. One of the greatest lessons I learned is missions is far more than serving. It is walking together being open to sharing in life’s great and challenging moments.”
– Carla, former volunteer and Global Mission Intern

The Global Mission Intern program invites you to challenge yourself in a one to three year international mission service opportunity. As you offer yourself in service, you will also learn more about yourself, your relationship with God, and your place in God’s world. You will build relationships that will change the way you look at the world. You will be a part of a growing group of young adults who have been transformed by these experiences and will provide you a new community on return. You will come back from your year in mission equipped to provide a global perspective on issues facing the church in our hurting world today.

As this is a program of Global Ministries, we ask that you have a relationship to the church with preference given to members of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), have recently graduated or are about to graduate from college, willing to receive the gifts of our partners as well as to share your gifts, in an intentional process of service, and live at a subsistence level to help meet needs worldwide. Through your experiences, you will witness to your faith as you demonstrate your call in love, learning and service.

If you are interested, please fill out the application and return it to the Mission Personnel Office by April 15th, 2014. Once your application is received, our mission personnel committee will work with our area executives as well as church agencies and ecumenical partners in ministry to evaluate your candidacy.  Placements vary from working with the poor, with Christian action groups dealing with human rights, with youth in crisis, on reconciliation, and development projects.  The Global Mission Intern program is funded by Week of Compassion.

Global Ministries is committed to offering opportunities for young adults from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ to engage in the work of the global church. Join us in this commitment by giving to the  Endowment to Support Young Adults in Mission.
