I had the opportunity to attend the forum jTatic Samuel jCanan Lum 2013 this week. This year’s event was held at the Diocesan Commission for Woman (CODIMUJ) in San Cristo-bal de las Casas, Chiapas on January 22nd-23rd, 2013. I wanted to take a moment to explain to you what jTatic Samuel jCanan Lum is and why it is so important to the people living in Chiapas.Read more...

At the Last Supper, Jesus exhorts his disciples to take bread and wine, and divide it among themselves in remembrance of him. The words he uses to signal that his death is imminent become the essence (in Indonesian we say inti) of communion, a ritual practiced by early Christian communities that has continued for 2000 years. That is a very long time to remember, but especially during Lent we realize that remembering is a central...Read more...

Dear Lord, today we celebrate your son’s triumphal entrance into Jerusalem. Unfortunately we know that the joy of the crowd, singing “Hosanna,” will soon be replaced by cries of “crucify him.” As we read today’s biblical texts, retelling the story of the last supper and betrayal of Jesus, we are called upon to meditate on the mystery of Jesus’ saving sacrifice. Before...Read more...

Prayers for Hungary:
Oh God, we pray for the church in Hungary to find creative responses to the new opportunities which have followed the collapse of communism. We ask that you help to strengthen their growing commitment to reconciliation and cooperation to overcome historic tensions between Hungary and neighboring countries, especially Romania and Slovakia, where ethnic Hungarian minorities feel the pressure of discrimination and injustice....Read more...

Another four hour shuttle ride scaling the mountain roads revealing garden terraces carved out of the face of the earth taking me to meet with a welcoming group. We ushered into the back of a jeep which took us another three hours through winding dirt roads passing through mining sites, narrow ridge tops, eventually stopping...Read more...

This is my very first newsletter article for Global Ministries, and when I started, I was not quite sure how I would tackle it. I have only been in Budapest for four months, so how on earth can I assume to have an insight into the culture or life of this country in such a short time? But then I realized that it is not my perspective on the people here I should try to communicate; rather, it’s my view...Read more...

Prayers for Nicaragua:
Beloved Father, you give to us abundantly, when we manage your gifts responsibly, and when we spend them frivolously. Profligate God, you bless us richly, when we fall at your feet in gratitude, and when we grumble and worry about receiving our fair share. We thank you and praise you for who you are. Give us hearts that are generous to...Read more...
