We are pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Angel Rivera-Agosto as the new Executive for Latin America and the Caribbean.  Angel comes to this position with a vast amount of experience, knowledge and commitment to the work within Latin America and the Caribbean related to churches, ecumenical and interfaith organizations, communities and other partners within the ecumenical movement.  Most recently he served as Executive Secretary for the Puerto Rico Council of Churches, having mission and ecumenism as a primary focus.  Angel has previously served as a missionary of Global Ministries assigned to the Latin America Council of Churches.  In addition, Angel has been a professor at the Puerto Rico Evangelical Seminary and has run a private law practice focusing on civil and labor law. Currently, he is also a member of the Disciples-Catholic International Commission for Dialogue, serving as one of seven Disciples representatives.

A colleague who knows Angel well has noted that a real strength is his ability to elaborate plans and programs in dialogue with partners.  In addition, “he tries to be a witness of his love of God and is very loyal to the church and to the people with whom he works.” Others have noted that he is an excellent theologian and ecumenist and has a passion for interreligious dialogue.

Angel graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico and, in addition, received a law degree from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor Degree from the University of Puerto Rico.  He is the author of numerous articles and publications on theology, socioeconomic justice and advocacy, and ecumenism.  Angel and his family will live in Indianapolis and he will begin his ministry as Area Executive on September 1, 2014.
