Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants

The Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM) is a Hong Kong-based regional network that works to empower migrants and strengthen migrant-led movements through advocacy, education and research, organizing, and regional cooperation. Its areas of focus include development and forced migration, domestic workers’ rights, marriage migration, migrant trade unionism, faith-based solidarity, and women and migration.

Established in 1984, APMM believes that empowered migrants are central to advancing and protecting migrants’ rights. It works with trade unions, faith-based institutions, women’s organizations, and grassroots migrant groups across Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East. APMM has also helped develop international networks and alliances, including Migrante International, the International Migrants Alliance, the Interfaith Network for the Rights of Migrants (INFORM), and the Alliance of Marriage Migrants Organisations for Rights and Empowerment.

Global Ministries provided particular support to APMM during the COVID-19 pandemic as it responded to the severe impacts of the crisis on migrants, refugees, and other displaced people. Alongside addressing immediate threats to livelihoods, health, and human rights, APMM worked for longer-term changes to reduce migrants’ vulnerability to discrimination, exclusion, stigmatization, xenophobia, abandonment, and neglect.
