Pray for Hong Kong on Sunday January 2, 2011

Prayers for Hong Kong: John 1:10-18

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory…John 1:14

O God, through the miracle of the Word made flesh, we have seen your glory, grace and truth. As we enter 2011, we claim anew your promise of power to be faithful witnesses to the ends of the world. On the first Sunday of the new year, we lift up our partner church – the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China. For over 90 years, this vibrant denomination has proclaimed the Good News and witnessed to your love through evangelism and service in the wider community.

Today we pray for HKCCCC’s 66 local congregations, 14 social service centers, 70 ordained ministers, 125 preachers and 220 deacons and elders. May their vision to equip every member to witness to Christ in word and deed be realized in the working places, institutions and families of Hong Kong. We pray for the denomination’s educational ministry that sponsors 82 schools in Hong Kong. May their plans for chaplaincy ministry in every one of these schools bear real fruit over the next 12 years. We pray for their holistic ministry to the underprivileged through projects in education, training, counseling and sharing of the Gospel. We pray for their work in mainland China in theological education and partnership in mission with churches in the southern and central regions. May your living Word continuously dwell in and among us – East and West – uniting us in one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth.

Mission Stewardship Moment from Hong Kong:

2010 marked my 16th year in Hong Kong. One would think after so much time, I would be an ‘expert’ on Asia. But it’s not true. Certainly I know a lot more than I did when I arrived in 1994, but I am constantly discovering something new that I probably should have learned a long time ago. Through my connection with the World Association for Christian Communication (www.waccglobal.org), I have had the chance to visit other countries in Asia: India, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar. I only stayed about a week each time, but I was able to get a glimpse of the beauty and pain in each place. It is humbling to see how the Christian Church continues to witness and serve under such complex and often oppressive conditions. We take a lot for granted in Hong Kong and the United States. Thank you for generous support that has made my journey possible as a Global Ministries missionary on your behalf.

Pray for Partners without Global Ministries Mission Personnel: Taiwan

God, we bring to you the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan and ask you to bless their work. We pray especially for the various ministries that reach out to marginalized people in Taiwan such as the Disabled Persons Service Center, the Fishermen’s Service Center, the Labor Concerns Service Center and Rainbow House. We ask you to equip the students at the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary to be the next generation of leaders of the Taiwanese Church. Amen.
