Prayers for Hong Kong:
O Lord, we praise you for your compassion and mercy to all generations. For we too lay wounded and half dead until you came to our rescue when all others had passed us by. You didn’t ask, “What might happen to me?” if you got involved. You only asked, “What might happen to them?” if you didn’t get involved. Through your sacrifice, we are healed in body, mind and spirit. May the churches in Hong Kong follow your example of the Good Samaritan. Let us never be so busy with our religious duties that we ignore the human tragedies unfolding right before our eyes. For surely you O God give us the migrant, the refugee, the prisoner, the poor and the protester to show us who is our neighbor and how to care for one another. Bless the mission of the Hong Kong Christian Council as it takes sides with the powerless and gives voice to those who are not allowed to speak. May your favor rest upon us and prosper the work of our hands. This we pray in the name of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

hong_Kong_2016_Judy_Chan_radio.jpegMission Stewardship Moment from Hong Kong:
Each year the Hong Kong Christian Council (HKCC) celebrates “Environment Sunday” to encourage churches in their stewardship of God’s good creation. In our radio service on that occasion, I interviewed our Eco-concern project officer, Jessica Tso (pronounced “Cho”). I asked, “Do you have a word of hope for our listeners about the future of the planet?” To my surprise, Jessica turned the question around. She said, “Our ministry is not about saving the planet. No matter what the situation of our planet, we should take care of our creation. No matter how bad or good things are, we should keep going because this is our mission from God – to love creation.” Jessica’s heartfelt reply reminds us that indeed God never requires success. We are only commanded to be faithful and to leave the results in God’s hands. In our broadcasting ministry, supported by Global Ministries, HKCC seeks to offer a word of hope to the thousands who listen every day to our programs on public radio. But let us never be tempted to measure our success by counting numbers only. Let us measure our faithfulness by those whose hearts and hands and voices proclaim the message of God’s compassion and mercy to all generations in Jesus Christ.
