Prayers for India: Matthew 5:1-12
Our merciful and comforting God, we take comfort in the knowledge of your presence in our lives and we pray that we can give the same love and compassion to our fellow human-beings in their critical time of need. We pray that you help us give them not only physically, but as a whole person in your name. We pray for the humble, the meek, and the persecuted...be merciful on them, O God. We pray for India and it's vast majority living in poverty, for the widespread corruption consuming the minds of people, for the escalating inflation and for all those who are suffering in mind and body. We pray especially for our partners in faith, the Church of North India, that You give them wisdom and guidance to carry out their responsibilities with faithfulness. Amen
Mission Stewardship Moment from India:
At this time in Mungeli, we are at a point where we have had an exciting trip by Toni and Immanuel from Atlanta. They have been able to take special sessions on holistic healing and helping to understand what our mission statement is over the past 10 days. This has been a unique experience for staff of the Christian Hospital, Mungeli, as well as both students and teachers of the Rambo Memorial School and also the staff and students of the Evangelical Hospital Tilda along with the School of Nursing.
We are also at a point where we are getting ready to dedicate the restoration of the first church in this region which was in 1897. It is going to be dedicated by Rev. Sharon Watkins and Rev. Geoffrey Black. At the same occasion will be Rev. Cally Witte, Rev. James Vijayakumar, Rev. Kelly Peters, Gregg (from the UCC magazine) with three others from the Avon Lake UCC church in Ohio and another five pilgrims along with Rev. Landa Simmons from the Lawrenceville Christian church in Atlanta.
Also going on at this time is a study on the high number of women who come to us ready to deliver but with dead children. The number was so alarming that a classmate (from the 4th grade) of mine who is a Family Nurse Practitioner in California is with us, with her family, for three months to study the stillbirth phenomenon. Meanwhile, we are able to help others, like little Ankit, survive. He was born prematurely at seven months and just 2.5 pound, but he is now one and a half months old and growing a little each day. His mother and grandmother often take him out into the sunshine and beam with happiness and gratitude as staff passing by stop to see how he is doing.
The hospital is growing steadily as we have many projects which are progressing simultaneously. We just had an inspection by the Indian Nursing Council which was an exciting time of cleaning up and getting our act together. We hope to be able to start by taking a class of 30 nursing students this year. We are also working away at getting the cancer centre finished and all it needs now is a roof. The machine, which is a grant by the Indian Government, is going to be sent over in about two weeks. We are also awaiting the arrival of a 40 foot container from friends in Fresno, California. This is of hospital supplies and sent with love from many who volunteer their time and efforts.
The English Medium School too is growing as we go ahead with construction. We had to stop admissions at a little over 500 this year but hope to be able to move to a 1000 kids as we get the new building built. All this work is possible by the help and support of all that is done though prayers and support of all of you there. It is indeed an honor to be sent by you and supported by you so that we together can praise God and share the Love of Christ with many who are marginalized and needy in this backward region of India.
