Pray for the Philippines on Sunday, October 25, 2009

Lectionary Text and Prayers for the Philippines: Mark 10:46-52

Churches and church-based organizations in the Philippines are helping thousands of families, who have lost relatives, homes and other properties after tropical storm Ketsana unleashed torrential floods. The 24-hour downfall of rain, on September 26, amounting to more than a foot in a one-day period, resulted in devastating flashfloods and landslides, mainly affecting the northern island of Luzon.

Let us pray:

Compassionate and loving God, just as Jesus listened to the cry of Bartimaeus and responded to his request, we ask that your ear might be attentive to the cry of your people in the Philippines. We thank you for the work of our partners in the Philippines as they reach out to meet the needs of their brothers and sisters. We ask that you might send help to those who need it after the devastating flood. We ask that you might protect those who are seeking justice for the poor. We ask that you might help us to be increasingly sensitive to those who are crying out around the world so that we might respond with the compassion of Jesus. Amen
