During this time of our religious life, Lord, we pray for your companionship on our Lenten journey. Guide us as we reflect on our life and faith and seek to spiritually enrich and equip ourselves. May we find challenge, joy, courage and wisdom along the way.

As we survey our world, Lord, we see so many lives defined by injustice. We especially remember in Asia today the people of Burma, Cambodia, Nepal, the Philippines and Thailand. The people of each country have a different story but similar suffering. We pray for an end to the poverty, oppression and uncertainty of their lives. We pray for their leaders to discover the wisdom and joy of your power and to cast away the emptiness of the power to which they cling.

We lift up to you as well the people of Iraq whose society is rapidly splitting into Shia, Sunni and Kurd. May the Iraqi people find a path to peace, wholeness and the renewal of life. May they find what unites them as people and set aside the differences that violently separate them.

As we join our prayer with those of others around the world in the ecumenical prayer cycle today, we give thanks for the churches of Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore. May they be a voice and inspiration for love, peace and justice in their societies and fellowship with their Muslim sisters and brothers.

At Kowloon Union Church, we give thanks for the many blessings you have given us. Use us, Lord, to bless others.

Let us take time now to pause and silently or out loud remember those for whom we wish to pray. (silence)
