Jack was born on April 21, 1919, inMayfield,Kentucky, to William T. and Agnes Hoffman Barron. He was married to Marjorie Wilson on January 15, 1952, atHartford,Connecticut. He was an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 61 years. He received his BA and MA Degrees fromPhillipsUniversityatEnid,Oklahoma, and his M.Div. Degree from Union Theological Seminary inNew York,New York.
During World War II, from 1943 to 1946, Jack Barron served in the amphibious branch of the U.S. Navy in the European Theatre. After his first pastorate inBarbourville,Kentucky, Reverend and Mrs. Barron served as missionaries for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the equatorial province of what today is theDemocratic Republic of the Congofrom 1952 – 1957.
After returning to theUnited States, Reverend Barron served three pastorates of nine years each inIndependenceandEmporia,Kansas, and inBeatrice,Nebraska. After retiring, Jack and Marjorie served as interim ministers in nine churches in four states. He enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards and he wrote five manuscripts.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Beatrice; two sons, Mark Barron and wife Kathy, and John Barron and fiancée Margo Sawyer, all of Lincoln NE; one daughter, Anne Collins and husband Kris of Greenwood, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sara and Alex Collins, Brandon Barron and Michael Barron.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, W.T., Edward, and Hoffman Barron; four sisters, Laura Hynds, Aileen Barron, Mabel Wheeler, and Mae Mallory Barron; daughter-in-law, Pamela Barron.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Beatrice with the Reverend David Bigley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church, 205 North 7th Street, Beatrice NE 68310-3917.
