Sabeel Wave of Prayer – Week of Oct. 12, 2026
On 9 October 2026, the Sabeel Old City Hub and Jerusalem Runners organized a 5K run and walk around the Old City to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, promote early detection, and show solidarity with women affected by breast cancer. Friends and families joined together to run, walk, and raise awareness. Nurse Mary Majlaton led an awareness session on the importance of early detection. Participants also enjoyed games and prizes sponsored by local Jerusalem businesses. All funds raised will be donated to Al-Mutala’a Hospital.
God of justice and mercy, we pray for our sisters and brothers who are ill, especially the women of our land living with breast cancer. Where a checkpoint or a closed road stands between a patient and her treatment, let your mercy open the way. Bless healthcare workers who work tirelessly for the community and hold close the families who keep vigil beside them. Make us a community of sumud, steadfast in love, with willing hands and open hearts, so that no one walks this road alone.

In the month of October, Sabeel Ministry of the Word will welcome Shadia Qubti, Rev. Natalie Webb, and Dr. Marie-Claire Klassen as guest speakers to reflect on the gospel through Palestinian liberation theology. Hosted online at 6 PM Palestine time every Thursday, Sabeel Ministry of the Word is an opportunity for friends of Sabeel locally and internationally to come together and be inspired to live out liberation in our world. You can register at tinyurl.com/sabeelworship.
Holy God, we thank you for the fellowship and communion of our global family which struggles for your truth and justice. Continue to instill in us that faith, when lived communally and personally, leads us to liberation. We pray for the wisdom and prophetic courage of the Holy Spirit that we may live out what we reflect on together during Ministry of the Word.

Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, an experienced jurist from South Africa who chaired a United Nations commission that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for her efforts to promote peace and international law. In retaliation, the Trump administrations announced sweeping new sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) as part of its efforts to undermine the tribunal over its investigations involving the United States and Israel.
God of justice, we pray that human rights will be upheld and prophetic voices like Navi Pillay will be heard. While we pray for truth and justice to be upheld in our courts and institutions, remind us that true change requires moral and spiritual transformation, which is demanded by the law of love. Lord, whether in the ICC, ICJ, or on the streets, help us, “Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute. Speak out, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)

From December 27th to December 31st, Christ at the Checkpoint is welcoming Christians from around the world to learn from Palestinian Christians, celebrate Christmas in Bethlehem, and rediscover the good news of Christ as God’s answer to violence, fear, and division. More information can be found here.
Emmanuel, we believe that justice is love made public. We pray for organizers and participants of this conference, that they may encounter and be transformed by your presence amongst the checkpoints, the borders, and all spaces where your oppressed dwell. Lord, strengthen the will and hope of all who are working for goodness.

October 10, 2026 marked one year since the “ceasefire” in Gaza was announced by the Trump administration. A year later, however, there is still no international peacekeeping force in Gaza as promised and no reconstruction. Instead, Israel’s military has expanded its control to roughly 70% of Gaza, squeezing more than 2 million Palestinians near the sea’s edge. Israel has also continued airstrikes throughout the ceasefire, killing more than 1,400 Palestinians this year.
Holy God, we grieve the man-made suffering in Gaza. No statement says all that can be said, no prayer can fully express the current depth of pain. But we hold onto the belief that you feel the hunger and the pain of the people in Gaza. We pray for true peace and justice to be delivered to the Holy Land.
