Settling In

We arrived in Argentina a week ago now, and have been busily settling in to our new home and new roles as missionaries with the Disciples of Christ faith community.  We’re based in northeast Argentina, in a city called Resistencia, and will also be working with Disciples churches in Buenos Aires and in Paraguay.  Our official title is “consultants for mission development,” meaning that our role is to help churches identify and undertake ways in which they want to grow and develop.

Our hosts, a pastor named Luís Macchi and his family, have been incredibly generous with their time (and furniture), and they’re delightfully funny as well.  The church committee meetings we’ve seen so far have been a fabulous mix of productivity and hilarity, with we are hanging on for dear life as we try to understand the jokes flying back and forth in colloquial Spanish.

Probably the most challenging element so far has been the brutal summer heat.  But never fear we are equipped with an air conditioner and, better yet, lots of gelato.  Argentine cuisine is largely derived from Italian foods, so there are a lot of gelaterías here.  Good for the heat, bad for the waistline.

So as not to clutter your inboxes, we won’t send emails from here on.  Instead, you can follow our experiences and reflections at your own pace on our blog.

In closing, we can’t thank you enough for all your thoughts and prayers.  We feel incredibly blessed to have your support as we embark on this new endeavor.

Peace and blessings,
