Supporting Asian Christianity’s Transition from Mission to Church

A History of the Foundation for Theological Education in South East Asia

Global Ministries is pleased to announce the publication of Supporting Asian Christianity’s Transition from Mission to Church:  A History of the Foundation for Theological Education in South East Asia, edited by former Global Ministries missionary Dr. Samuel Pearson, and Dr. Michael Nai Chiu Poon, on theological education in South East Asia. Greer Anne Wenh-In Ng, Professor Emerita, Victoria University in the University of Toronto, states that this book tells “the story of how one North American ecumenical foundation learned to move from a missions’ stance to one of partnership.”  She states:  “It traces the efforts of Protestant churches and educational institutions emerging from World War II, revolution, and colonization to train an indigenous leadership and to nurture theological scholars for the political, cultural, and religious realities in which these ecclesial bodies find themselves.”

Reverend Dr. Xiaoling Zhu Area Executive for East Asia and the Pacific for Global Ministries writes:  “This is a meaningful study of the common mission history of churches in North America and China.  It calls us to remember the past and dream the future.  We are so glad to see Samuel Pearson and Michael Poon’s excellent contribution to this project.”

Sam and Mary Pearson served as missionaries in China from 2003 to 2007.  The book is published by William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company and is available for purchase online through the publisher at:  http://eerdmans.com/shop/product.asp?p_key=9780802866226.
