WCC: World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel

Information and resources about the global and ecumenical World Week for Peace

“Jerusalem, the City of Justice and Peace”–World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel, 22 – 28 September 2013
An initiative of the Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum (PIEF) of the World Council of Churches.

Once again, World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel invites WCC member churches, faith-based communities, civil society organizations and other agencies working for justice to join a week of prayer, education and advocacy for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine and a just end to the conflict. The theme of this year’s event is “Jerusalem, the city of justice and peace.”

Already a number of new resources are available to assist local communities in preparing events and activities during the week. These new resources include:

  • The Jerusalem Prayer for World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel 2013, available in English and several other languages
  • A comprehensive review of church-related economic measures taken in support of ending the occupation
  • “Jerusalem: Universality Oppressed by Exclusivity,” a power-point presentation created by the Jerusalem Inter-Church Centre
  • Links to reports and information recently published by the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and local civil society groups

In the coming weeks, additional resources will be published, including an order of common prayer for Sunday 22 September being prepared by Palestinian theologians, a resource handbook of background material for each day of the week, as well as dossiers and reports on the impact of the occupation on the Palestinians of Jerusalem.
