West Africa Christian Religious Leaders Statement on Countering Radicalization and Violent Extremism

Dear Partners and friends of PROCMURA,

Greetings from Nairobi.

We have in the past week been deeply concerned to near desperation about the situation in South Sudan. We have been holding series of meetings and consultations on what needs to be done to have a rapid humanitarian aid response to the suffering peoples of that country. The situation is so confused that no one South Sudanese at the present time can provide an objective analysis of what happened. Surely, marking an anniversary of independence should not remind everyone of the fragility of the situation in this way.

This is to let you know that the current upsurge in radicalisation and violent extremism has reached alarming proportions so much so that the different regions within PROCMURA are having intra-Christian discussions on what needs to be done to curb the menace. Attached is a statement of West Africa Christian leaders on the issue after the PROCMURA Central Office brought them together in Nairobi for a seminar that deeply discussed the situation. After the seminar, country programmes were evolved by the leaders to ensure that all hands are on deck to attend to the situation.

Yours Sincerely,

Johnson Mbillah
General Adviser
