Critical Presence in the East Asia and the Pacific Means Theological Education for Local Church Leaders. This is a critical need that is faced in most all countries in the East Asia and the Pacific Region because there are many churches, including newly established churches, which need trained pastoral leadership. For diverse reasons, churches in this area of the world have fallen behind in providing education in their own countries and languages for candidates to ordination, pastoral leadership and lay leadership in their local churches. Partner churches, seminaries and Bible institutes are in great need of new church leaders that are trained to guide congregations with informed theology and biblical analysis, with high moral and ethical administration, and with skills and knowledge to accompany their communities inside and outside of the local church setting.

Critical Presence in East Asia and the Pacific means supporting Human Rights Work. Human rights violations in the Philippines have prompted outcries from the ecumenical community. Global Ministries partners are engaged in advocacy in the region and stand in solidarity with victims and their families. Support for Human Rights Critical Presence also includes supporting partners advocating for marginalized peoples in other nations in East Asia and the Pacific.
