2014 Partnership Update from Michigan Conference

The partnership between Pomerania and Michigan has been growing stronger after all the changes that occurred on both sides. The Pomerania landeskirchen merged with the Lutheran churches of Mecklenburg and Elba to form the North Church of Germany.

The partnership between Pomerania and Michigan has been growing stronger after all the changes that occurred on both sides. The Pomerania landeskirchen merged with the Lutheran churches of Mecklenburg and Elba to form the North Church of Germany. Michigan’s new Conference Minister, Rev. Dr. S. C. Campbell Lovett,  has been in communication with our German partners.

On September 20, Campbell will be the key note preacher at the kirchentag in Stalsund. This event two years ago drew over 2000 at worship. Campbell will be staying afterwards to meet with other partners from South Africa, Tanzania, Poland and Sweden in a retreat type of setting.

Rev. Paul Lance from United Northern Association will be leading a tour of UNA folks to Germany, and will also be attending the kirchentag. Paul speaks German fluently, which is a great advantage. UNA is where our partnership began, so it is especially fitting that the UNA folks will be renewing their relationship there.

I too plan on attending in conjunction with the UCC Forum meeting in Hanover on the 10th. (Please let me know if this is still in the works. My son is also getting married in September, making it a bit of a busy month.)

Rev. Matthias Tuve, the ecumenical officer for the Pomeranian Evangelische Kirche, and I talk every other month or so to be sure we are remaining connected.

(I apologize for the Cliff’s Notes version of the update, but CPE homework and Confirmation Sunday are looming- which is why I will miss the joy of being there this week.)

Blessings on all of you, your meeting, and your work.
