Serving with Compassion
Our Mission and Skills
At the heart of Morocco, the International Mutual Aid Committee — a partner of Global Ministries — is transforming lives one act of service at a time. Migrants arrive from across Africa, often exhausted, hungry, and traumatized, carrying the scars of dangerous journeys. The committee provides not only food and medical care but also hope, dignity, and human connection.
“Our church believes in showing love to our neighbors and to everyone in need,” said a team member. “All members of our community are involved. They have a heart to help people in difficult situations, especially those who are completely alone or abandoned.”
Volunteers rely on three key skills to carry out this vital work. First, listening and compassion: every person arriving at the committee’s doors is treated as a human being, with a story that deserves to be heard. “We take time to hear their stories, offer comfort, and even pray with those who request it,” explained a volunteer. “Sometimes, just being listened to is the first step toward healing.”
Second, organization is critical. The committee manages thirteen teams across Morocco, coordinating food distributions, medical appointments, and follow-up care. “We plan every detail, from grocery purchases to hospital visits, to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most,” said another volunteer. “Without organization, it would be impossible to serve so many people effectively.”
Third, teamwork and community engagement ensure that help reaches those in need, regardless of where they are in the country. Teams work together to make sure migrants have access to food, medical care, shelter, and emotional support. “We do this because we believe in the value of every human being,” said a volunteer. “We show love with our actions, not just words. It is not easy, but every time we see someone recover, smile, or feel hope again, it reminds us why we serve.”
This work is made possible through the One Great Hour of Sharing offering, which supports Global Ministries partners in providing aid around the world. “Without this support, our programs could not reach as many people as they do,” said a team member. “The generosity of donors allows us to provide food, medicine, and emotional care to people who often have nowhere else to turn.”
Beyond logistics, the committee’s volunteers offer something that no donation can buy: human connection. Migrants arriving at the committee often feel invisible in society. Through listening, compassionate care, and consistent support, the committee reminds them that they are seen, valued, and loved.
“Our mission is more than charity — it is justice,” said a volunteer. “We help people reclaim their dignity, and we show that faith is expressed through action. One Great Hour of Sharing allows us to live out this mission, reaching those who need it most.”
