A Story of Hope

Helping Pregnant Women in Morocco

Migrant women arriving in Morocco face extreme vulnerability, especially when pregnant. Many have been exposed to violence or exploitation during their journey, and some arrive with no family, resources, or support. For these women, the International Mutual Aid Committee — a partner of Global Ministries — provides life-changing care and hope.

Daniel Manariyo, a member of the International Mutual Aid Committee, explained the challenges these women face. “Many women arrive having crossed the desert road from Algeria, often robbed or abandoned along the way,” he said. “Some have been victims of violence or exploitation. If they reach Morocco, they often have nowhere to stay and no food or support.”

To address these urgent needs, the committee offers specialized support for pregnant women. “When a woman comes to us, we help her go to the hospital for medical tests and care,” said Manariyo. “We accompany her throughout her pregnancy, ensuring she receives the attention she needs until she gives birth safely.”

The team also provides supplies for both mother and child. “After the baby is born, we buy clothes for the newborn, goat milk for the baby, and a kit of food for the mother,” Manariyo continued. “We continue to help with medications and health care until she recovers.”

Beyond material support, the committee offers psychological and social assistance. “Sometimes it is very difficult for these women because there is no husband or family to help,” he added. “We listen to their stories, pray with them if they want, and try to show them that they are valued and supported. When we have resources, we give what we can. When we don’t, we wait and pray until we are able to provide the necessary support.”

The International Mutual Aid Committee’s work underscores the broader humanitarian challenges facing migrants in Morocco. Through dedicated volunteers and limited resources, the organization strives to ensure that even the most vulnerable, particularly pregnant women and mothers, are not left behind.

This compassionate care is made possible through Global Ministries’ 2025 Alternative Christmas, which helps fund partners like the International Mutual Aid Committee. Through this support, mothers and babies receive essential care, dignity, and hope — even in the face of enormous challenges.
