Called to transform lives
What We Do: Programs that Transform Lives
The International Mutual Aid Committee, a partner of Global Ministries, runs programs that address the multiple needs of migrants in Morocco. These programs include food aid, medical assistance, support for pregnant women, aid for mothers and children, psychological support, and community activities. Gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing offering help sustain this critical work.
“Before we give food, we take the time to listen to their stories,” explained a volunteer. “We hear about the difficult journey they took through the desert, the dangers they faced, and the people they have lost along the way. Listening is part of the aid — it shows them that we see them as human beings.”
Medical assistance is a cornerstone of the committee’s work. Volunteers accompany migrants to hospitals, pay for tests and medications, and sometimes cover funeral costs for those who die without family. “Some arrive very sick, without anyone to help them,” said a team member. “We make sure they get the care they need, and we follow up until they recover.”
Support for mothers and children is also critical. Pregnant women receive medical attention and adaptive food, while mothers with children are given food kits, milk, diapers, and hygiene supplies. “We try to meet every need we can, but sometimes resources are limited,” said a volunteer. “Even so, we share what we have and do our best to support them.”
Community events, such as the International Day of Migration, bring migrants together for free medical consultations, debates, and games. “These activities show migrants that they have rights like everyone else — the right to health, to dignity, and to joy,” explained another volunteer. “It reminds them that they are part of our community, even if life has been difficult for them.”
Through these programs, made possible by the One Great Hour of Sharing offering, Global Ministries partners bring tangible hope and support to people who have been abandoned, displaced, or overlooked. “We may have limited resources, but we serve with all our hearts,” said a team member. “Every meal, every visit, every conversation is a way to remind someone that they matter.”
