UPDATE: Car Accident Kills Morija Students and Teachers in Lesotho

School of the Lesotho Evangelical Church

Dear Friends,

Yesterday there was a memorial service at the Morija LEC for the victims of the tragic road accident last Friday.  Most of the deceased were from Mafeteng (about 15-20 miles south of Morija) as they were going home from school that day.  Many of the parents from Mafeteng were present at the service and given a chance to speak.  One parent lost two children in this accident.

We were also informed that a 2nd teacher had died as a result of her injuries.  The student death toll remains at six.  Others remain hospitalized and we hope and pray that they will recover.

Some of the funerals will be held this Saturday.  Others will take place on later weekends this month.

I want to thank all of you for your wonderful, caring support and prayers.  I have informed the LEC president of your concern and expressions condolence and he has expressed his appreciation for this.

God bless,

Dear Friends,

A prayer request.

Tragedy struck the Morija community Friday afternoon.  A taxi (minibus public transportation) was filled with students and a few teachers from Morija English Medium Primary School.  The taxi driver was reportedly driving at speeds way, way above the legal limit.  The vehicle crashed horribly, killing six students and one teacher, the driver and one other passenger.  Other students and teachers are in hospital.  The teacher killed was a neighbor of mine.  A wonderful young woman dedicated to her students and supporting her parents and other family members up in the mountains.

Please pray for all the individuals who are injured, the families of all involved, the students and staff at the school and all of us here in Morija who are bereaved by this tremendous loss.
