Death of Elizabeth Yarrow Leckenby, former missionary in Philippines

 

We are sorry to have learned that Elizabeth Yarrow Leckenby died on January 16, 2008 in her home at Horizon House.

She was born Oct. 11, 1914 and attended Oberlin College, Pacific Oaks School and Seattle Pacific University. She was married to the Rev. Ernest A. Yarrow in 1947 and they had four children as they shared a life of ministry in Seattle, as well as New York, New Jersey, Illinois and California.

Betty was a teacher and social worker. In 1975/76 she developed a preschool/kindergarten at Dansalan College in the Philippines for the United Church Board for World Ministries. She was a member at Plymouth Congregational and the Pugetarians.

In 1978, Betty married William Leckenby, who died in 1993. She is survived by her children: Susan Yarrow Morris (David), Nancy Cope (Roy), Jeani
Holzman (Michael) and Peter Yarrow; five grandchildren, their spouses and ten great grandchildren. Her family also includes Bill’s son, Edward
Leckenby (Susan) and Bill’s five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on February 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Horizon House Chapel.
