Duta Wacana is both a University and a Theological School and is a center for training the future church leaders in Indonesia. The school serves approximately 4500 students in the areas of theology, engineering, economics and biology. Approximately 70% of the students are Protestant and 21% are Catholic (in a country which has 10% Christian population). All faculty are Christian.
Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW) was developed in 1962 by the merging of the Jogjakarta Theological Academy and the Bale Wiyata Theological School in Malang. Currently, the university offers study in the areas of not only theology, but also Architecture, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Business, Medicine, and English Education. The university also offers a Master of Theology and a Master of Conflict and Peace Studies as well as doctoral programs in Theology and Religious Studies.
