Ecumenical Invitation to join Global Peace Prayer

Ecumenical Invitation to join Global Peace Prayer

And they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. —Isaiah 2:4 (NRSV)

Christians are called into prayer and advocacy for peace. In a global context where war and violence abound the practice of peace has become even more urgent.

As the war in Ukraine enters its second year, a partnership of Christian world communions is organizing an online global peace prayer. Prayers for peace will be raised not only for Ukraine but for other areas suffering from violence or the threat thereof, including escalating violence in Palestine, continuing military exercises threatening peace on the Korean peninsula, state violence in Myanmar, and a fragile situation in Ethiopia.

Last year, the Baptist World Alliance, Lutheran World Federation, Mennonite World Conference, World Methodist Conference, and World Communion of Reformed Churches organized an online global peace prayer on Ash Wednesday. This was attended by over 5,000 people from 150 countries.

This year, these Christian world communions, along with the World Council of Churches, are organizing a global peace prayer on 22 March at 15:00 (CET) [10 am US EDT/7 am US PDT].

Those interested in attending are invited to register through this link.
