Global Ministries expresses concern and solidarity to PGI following earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia

Rev. Dr. Henrietta Hutabarat Lebang
President
Communion of Churches in Indonesia, PGI

Dear Rev. Lebang,

We are indeed saddened and shocked to hear about the earthquake and the consequent tsunami that struck the districts of Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong, the city of Palu, and several other areas in Sulawesi on Friday, September 28, 2018.

We mourn the deaths of the thousands who have lost their lives and we pray for their families and communities. We also pray for those who are rendered homeless and are in great distress. May God grant courage and strength to all of them and heal their memories of trauma and devastation.

We also write this to express our solidarity and prayerful accompaniment as you reach out to the people, families and communities and in your efforts to heal and restore. We pray for the relief agencies, the local governments, and all those providing emergency assistance.

We are called to witness to God’s love at all times and situations. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging”. (Psalm 46:1-3)

Please be assured of our continued prayers and solidarity

Yours in Christ
Sincerely,
