In fall 2005, Area Executive Xiaoling Zhu, visited Henan Province in China, a province where HIV/AIDS has been heavily transmitted, and the income per person is just $10 per year. He found out that more than 25 houses of families with AIDS patients were damaged or destroyed during the raining season.
Guanggui Li is in his sixties with two teenage children supported by our Child Sponsorship program. His wife died of AIDS several years ago. The fallen house was the only thing he had (left). He slept in the open air when Xiaoling met him.
Ms. Sulan Wang and her son were living under a piece of plastic, surrounded by bricks from their fallen house (left, below). Winter was close, and they wondered how they could live through the cold winter.
With the help of OGHS and WOC, a $20,000 emergency fund was sent to the Zhecheng Succor (HIV/AIDS) Society. When the leaders of Zhecheng Succor (HIV/AIDS) Society went to the villages to share the news about CGMB’s support to these families, the villagers said, “Why shouldn’t we help these families – even American friends support them from thousands miles away?”
With loving neighbor’s hearts, and limited funds from CGMB, the villagers helped their neighbors with free labor, bricks and other materials. The outpouring of support among the villagers was so bountiful, the houses were rebuilt much larger and nicer than was originally planned. We give thanks to God: The project of rebuilding 25 damaged houses was finished in just one month!
