Mama Nzeba Visits the Disciples Center

Mama Nzeba, the director of the department of women and family for the Eglise du Christ au Congo shares her ministry at the Disciples Center

Mama Nzeba, the Director of the Department of Women and the Family for the Church of Christ in the Congo, shared her ministry during a luncheon at the Disciples Center on Friday, June 11. She is currently visiting Disciples congregations in Indiana before she attends the Quadrennial Event of Disciples Women June 23-27 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

During her presentation she shared stories of the plight of women in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo where a violent struggle for natural resources and minerals has been going on for quite some time with little response from the international community. She highlited what the churches are doing through the ecumenical body, the Church of Christ in the Congo, to reach out to women who have been brutally abused sexually and often times mutilated physically through the amputation of a limb or loss of an eye. The church is helping these women recover from this trauma and providing opportunities for income generating projects so that they can recover their dignity and earn a living.

At the conclusion of the luncheon the participates gathered in a circle and Sharon Watkins lifted up prayers for our action on behalf of the Congolese and the welfare of women in this part of the world.
