There are three resolutions coming before General Synod and one before General Assembly relating to the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

There are three resolutions coming before General Synod and one before General Assembly relating to the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

For General Synod, Wider Church Ministries/CGMB has submitted its resolution “Tear Down the Wall.” For General Assembly, the Division of Overseas Ministries/CGMB has submitted the same resolution “Tear Down the Wall.” Texts are only slightly different.

For background on the “Wall” the Global Ministries-supported Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel has produced a helpful resource called “Security or Segregation? The Humanitarian Consequences of Israel’s Separation Wall” containing facts and first-hand accounts of communities impacted by the construction of the Separation Barrier.

An exhaustive study mapping the barrier’s path and analyzing its consequences, “The Wall in Palestine: Facts Testimonies, Analysis and Call to Action,” has been professionally produced and is available from the Palestinian Environmental NGOs Network (PENGON).

There are also two resolutions on the Middle East and economic leverage:
Six local congregations have submitted the resolution “Calling for a Study of Divestment of Church Funds from Companies that Profit from the Perpetuation of Violence and Injustice in Israel and Palestine.”

The Penn West Conference Board of Directors has submitted the resolution “Selective Divestment from Companies Involved with Israel’s Occupation of the West bank and Gaza, the Building of the “Security Fence,” and the Israeli Settlements Within Palestinian Territory.”
