Greetings!

It’s time again for nominations for the Council of Theological Students of Common Global Ministries of the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  We have moved to a 12 month cycle for the CTS program and so are asking for your nominations for the 2007-8 year by May 15, 2007.  I have attached a copy of the nomination sheet for you to return to me with contact information for your school’s nominee and faculty representative.  These students will begin as part of the Council in September, 2007 and serve through August, 2008 while the current group finishes their term in August of 2007.  Each school can nominate one student who should be a member of the United Church of Christ or Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

This Global Ministries Council of Theological Students is gathered for the purpose of helping further equip students to serve as effective ministers in a global community.  Members of the Council of Theological Students network with other students, and have the opportunity to learn of, engage in and interpret the work of Global Ministries.  This year we have had a great group of students as part of CTS, but several of the students have not been able to carry through on the expectations of the program as designed with initial gathering, networking newsletter, project and concluding event/mission trip.  Therefore, in a continuing effort to shape the program for CTS in ways that are workable for all involved, the 2007-8 group will have some scaled back expectations.

The CTS program for 2007-8 will include:

(1) Meeting of the Council of Theological Students alongside and in conjunction with the fall meeting of the Common Global Ministries Board, the governing board for Global Ministries. Students must be able to attend this meeting, November 7-11, 2007 to be eligible for membership. Global Ministries pays for all related meeting expenses.

(2) Collaboration with other CTS students in producing a newsletter. Each student will participate in the creation of one newsletter during the year on a topic related to Global Ministries’ work. Specific topics for each newsletter to be chosen by each group of CTS students. These newsletters will be sent electronically to all CTS students, faculty representatives and UCC/Disciples of Christ-related seminaries. They may also be appropriate for posting to websites and other educational and promotional uses by Global Ministries.

(3) Attention to and involvement in the work of Global Ministries during the year by organizing an interpretation event or other means of sharing Global Ministries work in student’s own seminary and/or church community.

Also, in the continuing attempts to keep the faculty representatives at each seminary informed about the CTS program, please let me know if your school needs to change the contact person for CTS.

Thank you so much.  I look forward to our continuing partnership during the coming year.
