Pacific Southwest Region and Southern California Nevada Conference Youth are “Mission READY”!

From February 14-17, 108 high school youth and 30 adults from the Pacific Southwest Region and Southern California Nevada Conference gathered for the annual “Feb Camp” at Pilgrim Pines Campground in Yucaipa, California. The theme of the camp was “Mission READY” and each of the four keynote sessions corresponded to the new youth curriculum developed by Global Ministries entitled “READY! – Revolutionary, Engaged and Driven Youth.”

– Revolutionary, Engaged and Driven Youth.” During the retreat, youth were challenged to reimagine and redefine their understanding of God’s mission and how we should engage the world, especially those who are different from us.  During the camp, sessions were led by Global Ministries staff as well as former missionaries Ken and Betty Frank, who served for 38 years in both Zambia and Turkey.  In addition, Hanna Hyatt, a high school student and member of the United Church of Christ’s Council for Youth and Young Adult Ministries (CYYAM), assisted with the leadership responsibilities.

In noting the impact of what they learned, one of the youth participating in the camp said, “It taught me to be more accepting of others and the importance of getting to know their story.”  Hannah, after helping in the leadership of the retreat, noted that “it was quite an experience to see how the youth curriculum and the stories that were shared by the visiting missionaries resonated with the youth and opened their eyes to all of the possibility the world has to offer and all of the possibility we may offer the world in return. Serving globally is a partnership between many unique communities, and that those from different walks of life, those that live in different parts of the world, have the ability to empower each other and that’s where Global Ministries sets its foundation. So we (the youth) say thank you for this opportunity to learn.”
