Pray for Zimbabwe on Sunday, March 6, 2011

Prayers for Zimbabwe: Matthew 17:1-9

God, we lift up the country of Zimbabwe to you. We pray for the political stability of this nation and for some many who are struggling to survive. We ask that you might give the Christian community the strength to be your witness in this land. Give them a vision of your beloved Son and the accompaniment that he provides with those who are on the side of the poor and oppressed. Help us to not loose site of who your Son calls us to be in this world as we stand with our brothers and sisters around the globe and particularly in Zimbabwe today. Amen

Mission Stewardship Moment from Zimbabwe:

This year Dale Patrick has a two semester Hebrew course and Mary Patrick a two semester Greek course.  Three-quarters of the 40 member first year class chose to take Greek, prompting Marty to teach two sections plus a Friday morning session for review and extra help.  Each of them also teaches a first year introductory Bible course: Dale’s is “Reading Genesis” and Mary is “Reading Mark.” They are both involved in remedial coaching of people who failed last year’s courses.  Things are looking up at United Theological College in Harare with a new energetic administration and, as you can see, Dale and Mary are part of the action.

  • Maryjane and Don Westra, members of Federated Church UCC, Fergus Falls, Minnesota, serve the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe. Maryjane works as a health and child care consultant at Mt. Selinda. Don works on the staff of the Micro-Enterprise and Strategic Planning/Management program at Mt Selinda.
