I.  Reflections of the Vice-President of the Community of Disciples of Christ in Congo

Greetings in the Lord,

I ask your prayers for the safety of the country in general and that of my family in particular. Last night I was visited by thieves and many of my goods were stolen. The situation is of concern for all of us. People are carrying guns and moving freely during the night. This is proof that the country, in general and the city of Mbandaka in particular, are insecure during this period when the elections ahead seem to be very difficult.

We are very afraid of the situation in the Congo. The current President has not met the expectations of the population. His re-election is not easy but he has the army on his side.  Will he accept the result whatever it is? Thsisekedi is the most popular candidate but he is the most radical of the candidates. Will he be able to make peace with those who loose or if it is not him who wins? Kengo and Camere are are the moderate candidates.  Will one of them really be elected for the peace of the country? These are questions that women and men in the Congo are asking.

May God protect the Congo. God bless you.

As we approach the elections, we need your support in prayer so that the will of God will be done. The one that should be elected is the one who will serve and have the well-being of all Congolese as the priority.

Dear Bishop  Dr. Marini and Rev. Bonanga,

On behalf of all the members of the Disciples of Christ in the USA and Canada and all members of the United Church of Christ in the USA, we greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

We know that very soon there will be elections for the new leadership of your great and beautiful country. To this end, now in our churches and congregations, we begin to pray for you, for the country and that the elections take place in peace and discipline despite the new problems that are already creating challenges by the unruly acts in some parts of the country.

We hope that the new leaders are selected by you not only physically but also spiritually by God who is always ready to offer God’s wisdom to all those who lead God’s people on earth. We pray that God’s will is done and that those elected will serve the well-being of all Congolese people regardless of their tribe, political party or religious affiliation.

May our Brother, Jesus Christ, protect you and help you before, during and after the elections.

I. Réflexions du Vice-Président de la Communauté des Disciples du Christ au Congo

Salutation dans le Seigneur,

Je sollicite vos prières pour la sécurité du pays en général et celle de ma famille en particulier. La nuit d’hier, j’ai été visité par les voleurs et beaucoup de mes biens sont volés. Cette situation inquiète plus d’une personne. Laisser les gens à mains armées se déplacer librement pendant la nuit est une preuve que le pays en général et   la ville de Mbandaka en particulier est dans l’insécurité pendant cette période où les élections s’annoncent très difficile.

Nous avons très peur de la situation du Congo. L’actuel Président n’a pas répondu aux attentes de la population, sa réélection n’est pas facile mais il a l’armée, acceptera-il le résultat quelle qu’il soit? Thsisekedi est le candidat le plus populaire mais il est radical, pourra-il faire la paix avec ceux qui vont échouer ou même celui qui pourra gagner si ce ne sera pas lui? Kengo et Camere sont les plus modérés, l’un d’entre eux sera-t-il vraiment élu pour la paix du pays? Ce sont là des questions que les Congolaises et les congolais se posent.

Que Dieu protège le Congo. Que Dieu vous bénisse.

 Nous nous approchons aux élections, nous avons besoin de votre soutien dans vos prières, enfin que la volonté de Dieu soit faite. Celui qui doit être élu c’est celui qui sera au service et au bien-être de tous les Congolais.

Au nom de tous les membres des Disciples du Christ aux Etats Unis et au Canada et tous les membres de l’Eglise Unie de Christ aux Etats Unis, nous vous saluons au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ,

Nous savons que très bientôt il y aura des élections pour désigner les nouveaux dirigeants de votre très grand et beau pays.  A cet effet, dès maintenant dans nos églises et congrégations, nous commençons à prier pour vous, pour le pays et que les élections se passent dans la paix et la discipline malgré la nouvelle qu’il y a déjà des troubles cause par l’indiscipline dans certains parties du pays.

Notre souhait est que les nouveaux dirigeants soient sélectionnés non seulement physiquement par vous, mais aussi spirituellement par Dieu Lui-même qui est toujours prêt à offrir sa sagesse à tous ceux qui dirigent son peuple sur la terre.  Nous prions que la volonté de Dieu soit faite et que ceux qui sont élus seront au service et au bien-être de tous les Congolais sans tenir compte de leur tribu ou appartenance politique ou religieuse. 

Que notre Frère Jésus Christ vous protège et vous accompagne avant, pendant et après les élections.
