Charles and Elizabeth Sangree Fund for Southern Africa

The Charles and Elizabeth Sangree Fund for Southern Africa was established as a Wider Church Ministries endowment fund in 2020 in memory of Charles and Elizabeth Sangree at the request of their son, David and his wife, Laura Sangree. Reverend Charles Sangree attended Union Theological Seminary and was an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ in the states of New York and Massachusetts. Elizabeth Sangree was a registered nurse and very active in her husband’s churches. Both demonstrated their love of Christ and dedication to spreading the Gospel throughout their lives.

Reverend Charles and Mrs. Elizabeth Sangree’s interest in southern Africa was piqued during a visit to Malawi where they were struck by the warmth of the people amidst great need. They were visiting their son David and his wife Laura who were serving in the Peace Corps in Malawi for two years. They also were proud of their son Harry, who served in Zaire/Congo for a year with Habitat for Humanity.

The Charles and Elizabeth Sangree Fund for Southern Africa provides support for Global Ministries partner churches, ministers, seminaries, and church medical work in the southern African countries of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Congo, including facility improvements, staff training, and outreach ministries.

Contributions may be made to the principal of this Fund at any time. Gifts for the Charles and Elizabeth Sangree Fund for Southern Africa should be directed by check written to Wider Church Ministries and sent to:
