Protestant Churches of Egypt issue statement on water resource scarcity

The Protestant Churches of Egypt, and its president, the Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, issued the following statement and appeal on Tuesday, July 7, 2021 concerning the matter of Nile River water resource access.

With reference to recent events our beloved country Egypt is facing significant challenges that directly endanger its water resources and historical rights of its citizens. As the Egyptian Protestant Churches of Egypt, we express our unwavering support for Egypt’s political leadership and the Egyptian state’s loyal national role following June 30th, the capable and decisive state in which we put our trust in order to protect our rights and water resources and to defend our national security.

I am writing to express my support for Egypt’s historical and legitimate water resource position.

The Presidency of the Egyptian Protestant Church requests that all of our evangelical churches in Egypt and churches around the world pray for God’s protection of Egypt against all those who threaten the genuine Egyptian state’s rights and foundations.

Global Ministries has supported US engagement in resolving this issue through issuance of an action alert in 2020.
