Ramallah Quakers Announce Meetinghouse Centennial Event in U.S.

March 7, 2010 was the 100th Anniversary celebration of the dedication of the Ramallah Friends Meetinghouse in Ramallah.  In addition to the celebratory events that occurred in Ramallah this past week and will continue during this month and year, a memorable Centennial Commemoration will occur in the Maryland suburbs of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with a catered Middle Eastern Dinner and a Concert by a Palestinian Artist. The event is cosponsored by the Friends International Center Ramallah (FICR) and the Sandy Spring Friends Meeting Peace Committee. Clerk Jean Zaru will give a video message and her son, Saleem, and his wife will speak on what it was like to grow up in the Ramallah Meeting.

The program begins at 5:30 pm in the Sandy Spring Meetinghouse with Landrum Bolling, Bette Hoover, Jim Fine – Middle East expert from FCNL, Arlene Kelly- Presiding Clerk of AFSC, and Salem and Carol Zaru, Members of RFM. At 7:00 p.m. in the Community House there will be a delicious Middle Eastern meal prepared by Nuha Haddad, then music by gifted Palestinian singer and Composer Huda Asfour.
