Please join Brad Parker, Co-leader of the #nowaytotreatachild campaign and Senior Adviser for Policy and Advocacy at Defense for Children International - Palestine, for a webinar on June 30 at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT. He will share updates on the situation of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons and provide an overview of the Israeli military law framework, including how it relates to the annexation of the West Bank. He will also highlight how the Israeli military law and military court system fail to ensure or guarantee fundamental human rights.
In 2017, the General Synod of the United Church of Christ and the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) each adopted resolutions supporting the rights of children living under Israeli military occupation. The UCC and Disciples have supported the #nowaytotreatachild campaign, and have advocated for these rights with Congressional members in Washington, DC.
The campaign has spearheaded efforts in Congress to advance Palestinian rights. Its main success in the current congressional session has been supporting Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) to introduce H.R. 2407, the "Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act." The bill prohibits U.S. taxpayer funding for the military detention of children in any country, including Israel.
While generally applicable, H.R. 2407 seeks to promote justice, equality, and human rights by ensuring that U.S. financial assistance provided to Israel is not used to support widespread and institutionalized ill-treatment against Palestinian children detained by Israeli forces and prosecuted in Israeli military courts that lack basic fair trial protections.
This webinar will be using the Zoom platform. Additional instructions and details for joining the webinar will be shared by email with individuals that have registered.
