Prayers for El Salvador
What a joy, Jesus, it is to seek your presence, amid our daily chores, in the midst of worries, for our family, for our family in faith, and for the larger family, our country.
We always need you, Jesus, your enlightening Word, and your company along the way, especially with our sister communities whom we accompany and serve.
How your Word encourages us, Jesus, in family life. It teaches us to value family.
You call us to live our faith with the simplicity and innocence of a child. A child who, seeing you, becomes captivated by your love and attends to your words with the joy of having you as a friend and as a teacher.
Bless our work, O God, our effort to make your justice and your peace a reality amongst us, Amen!
Mission Moment from El Salvador
Year after year, we organize Bible Peace Schools with the support of Global Ministries. They take place during November and December, which are school vacation time in El Salvador. Last year, the theme was “You, me, us, all of us, we all build Peace.”
In one of the themes, “Building Peace in the Family,” one of the participating children from the Bible Peace School in Los Cruces, Mercedes Umaña, Usulutan, went home and shared about the theme and what he had been taught. He urged his parents to live in peace and unity as a family. The next day, the boy’s mother, who came to pick him up, went to one of the teachers and said to her, “Thank you very much for what you are teaching my children because they have brought this teaching to us.” The family now collaborates with the Bible Peace Schools Program.
The teacher followed the child’s example and explained to the other children the importance of sharing the teachings of the Gospel with their families.
