Prayers for Guadeloupe and Martinique: Luke 24:13-35
Dear Lord, creator of all, we pray for the people of Guadeloupe and Martinique.
Dear Lord, as crime and violence continue to grow, as unemployment and precarity still remain a way of life for thousands, as relations between metropolitan France and it’s islands continue to be conflictual, we ask you to send a spirit of peace, justice and reconciliation over the caribbean. It is easy to see how history has formed communities segregated by color and access to opportunities. We ask you humbly to help us be agents of repentence, forgiveness and reconciliation.
Dear Lord, here in the french caribbean we pray in particular for the current generation of youth. It breaks our heart to see so many of them turning to drugs and crime. It breaks our heart to see so many of them giving up on education . It breaks our hearts to see them joining gangs. It breaks our heart to see so many of them filling Guadeloupe and Martiniques jails.
Dear Lord, as Jesus accompanied the disciples on the road to Emmaus, inspire us to walk with those who are in distress and without hope. Help us listen, confort, share and spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Mission Moment from Guadeloupe:
In 2010 the Protestant Reformed Church in Guadeloupe and Martinique created a small non-profit organisation called “Men A Lespwa”. Men A Léspwa is a Creole saying which translates as “Hand of Hope”. It symbolizes both the hand that reaches out to help and support as well as the idea that hands working together can help spread hope and strength.
As a part of it’s mission Men A Lespwa is currently involved in:
– Providing literacy training to women prisoners.
– Providing counseling and support for young male prisoners, parolees, and their families.
– Providing legal advice to refugees seeking political asylum.
– Providing scholarships to cover school costs for Haitian children.
– Participating in and organizing various conferences and public debates aimed at raising awareness of different challenges facing Caribbean society.
This outreach and service aimed at helping some of the most marganilized parts of society is one way in which the protestant reformed churches try to put in practice their message of peace, hope and love.

God, we lift up to you the people of Haiti as they continue to rebuild their lives and their country after the devastating earthquake. We pray for CONASPEH and House of Hope and thank you for the new facilities that they have been able to build/buy after the earthquake. We ask you to continue to bless their ministries and to show us how to be faithful as we accompany them on their journey. Amen
