Prayers for India: Matthew 21:23-32

Dear God,

We live in a country where there are over a billion people, most 80% of them in the villages of India.  This is a land that boasts of high economic growth, modernization and change which is only applicable to the 20% of those that are seen in the cities.  Meanwhile millions of people are living below the poverty line with many who are landless and working as migrant laborers in city slums or are small time farmers struggling to make a living and many of them committing suicide as they cannot make ends meet.

Meanwhile we pray for peace as we go through bomb blasts and terrorism which have become regular features all through this county.

Even through all this, there is awareness amongst the masses that there is need for education and children like ours in our school of over 560 children come for distances in and around Mungeli each day to hope for a better tomorrow.  Help them to be citizens of a better tomorrow listening to the call and going out to work in your vineyard.

We also pray for those who come to the hospital through hardships of getting there through the mud and swollen up rivers due to the monsoons that they may through our work and service know that it is the authority and love of Christ that heals their hearts and their bodies.

Amen.

Mission Stewardship Moment from India:

We are here in Mungeli Christian Hospital, one of eight hospitals which represent the UCC and the Disciples of Christ. This past year, the neighboring hospital in Tilda was able to complete the extension of their nursing hostel and this was completely funded by Global Ministries.

I am here in Mungeli on your behalf working in a hospital which was almost closed 8 years ago and now has grown to be a major hospital of this region.  We see about 30,000 patients a year and operate on about 2,500 as well as deliver about 600 babies a year.  We are blessed as we start our nursing school where we have just chosen 20 girls who will be starting a new chapter in their lives.  We also are blessed as we have installed our CT scanner and the hospital also completes the new cancer therapy department.

We also run the Rambo English Medium School where a little over 560 children come from all the surrounding villages in school buses for an education in a Christian school environment for a very low cost.

Through help from donations and the finances and efforts of the hospital, we were also able to restore the oldest church of this region which was built in 1868 and was a pillar to the Christian Ministry of this region.

God has been kind to us and blessed us immensely as we have over 40 short term missionaries who come out in pilgrimages of all sorts and share in the love and joy who serving these people in need who have very little compared to what we have.
