Prayers for Laos: John 14:15-21

God, I am so grateful that I am given a chance to work in this beautiful peaceful country of Laos. In any kind of social development work you meet challenges and many times I want to offer my services but there are just so many obstacles and unfilled promises. I thought you weren’t listening to me.  I thought you were leaving me as an orphan, but in the end, if I am patient, you always produce good results. So now even I do not see concrete result in front of my eyes, I continue to believe in you because you love me. I thank you for letting me work with the Disabled Women Development Centers, (LDWDC) this year. You did not abandon me and you continue to give the strength and patience I need. During the Easter time I heard that one of the Disciples did not believe until he touched the wounds of Jesus and Jesus said “Good for those who do not see me and believe me.” I do not see you, but I believe you, God.  You are present in those who I  am helping in these villages, schools and universities. Therefore I am grateful to you, oh God !

Mission Moment from Laos:

Who would have said  this little girl of little Phomalok Farm,  Donsangphai village  Pakgnuem district, Vientiane , Laos could be the first woman in this village to do graduate from the BSSD ( Bachelor of Sociology and Social Development ) program of Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Laos, NUOL.  Phone is the first woman of this village get such a university degree. She is among the 79 new social worker /social development workers of Laos among the very first batch. Since her graduation in September 2010, Phone has been putting her degree to work! I think with the support of her families, friends and teachers as well as supporters Phone’s dream have been realized and  she will continue to grow. Thank you through Global Ministries for the scholarship fund, plus a small fund for Phone’ s organic farm and mud center to help support Phone in a very small way, but the result is quite big and unique for this one little girl of a small village in Laos.

Global Ministries International Partners in Laos:

  • Church World Service has been involved in ethnic minority communities that are caught in a cycle of poor quality education due to a lack of properly trained teachers. CWS has been building education centers and providing quality training to the under-trained community teachers in Vietnam and Laos. Through CWS, Global Ministries  works to support after school programs and provide scholarships to local volunteering youths
  • The Lao Evangelical Church is an organization of the Protestant Christian churches is Laos. They are working to develop improved educational options for the people of Laos; both through building schools in remote areas of the country that have none and also developing opportunities for advanced students to continue their studies in the Philippines The Church is also challenged to find ways to make medical care more accessible to the poor. Hospitals will give limited assistance to the poor only if the patient can get certification of their poverty status.
