Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
1 Corinthians 10:17
1 Corinthians 10:17 reminds us that Communion is more than a meal we share—it is a visible sign of our belonging to one another in Christ. Though we come from different cultures, countries, traditions, and circumstances, we gather around one bread and one cup as one body. On World Communion Sunday, this verse invites us to see the table as a place where divisions give way to connection, where diversity is celebrated, and where the global church is united in Christ.

For World Communion Sunday, we are honored to share prayers from our global partners. The Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel in El Salvador and The Evangelical Pentecostal Union of Venezuela invite us into worship with words that reflect gratitude, unity, and hope. As we come together at the Lord’s table, these prayers remind us that across continents and cultures, we are one body in Christ, bound by faith and love.

This World Communion Sunday, we celebrate the diversity and beauty of worship around the globe. Our global partners—Pacific Theological College in Fiji, Silliman University in the Philippines, The Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in Armenia, and The Church of Christ in Congo—share music that lifts our hearts and unites us in praise. As we listen and sing together, we are reminded that the Spirit of God connects us across continents, cultures, and traditions.

World Communion Sunday is a special time to remind children that God’s family stretches across every country and culture. These Children’s Moments, “Learning About God’s Global Family”, based on scriptures from 1 Corinthians, Psalms, and John, offer simple object lessons, discussion questions, and prayers to help kids of different ages understand the meaning of unity in Christ. Whether your worship is online or in person, these activities will help young disciples connect with the global church.

Mission Moment: One Bread, One Body
Imagine a woman named Rosaline, a single mother in Angola, sitting in a vocational training class learning how to make pastries.
For Rosaline, this was more than learning a new skill. It was an opportunity to build a future for herself and her four children. Through the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola, or IECA, she completed a pastry-making course and began a small business. Today, she owns a bakery located at an inter-provincial bus station and employs three other people.
But perhaps the most beautiful part of Rosaline’s story is what happened next. Because her business was doing well, all four of her children were able to attend school. One opportunity opened a door not only for Rosaline, but for her entire family.
This is what it means to be one body.
Rosaline lives thousands of miles from us. Her language, culture, daily life, and experiences may be very different from ours. And yet, around the Communion table, she is our sister in Christ. Her hopes are connected to our hopes. Her joys are our joys. Her future matters to us because we belong to the same body.
Global Ministries’ partnership with IECA is not simply about giving resources to people in another country. It is about walking together—sharing gifts, learning from one another, and participating in God’s work of creating communities where people can flourish.
Today, as we receive the bread, remember Rosaline. Remember her children. Remember our sisters and brothers in Angola and around the world. We are many, but we are one body. And there is room for all of us at God’s table.
Benediction
We have been guests of Jesus Christ. We have received God’s good gifts. Now we go out in the energy of the Spirit to our homes, to our neighborhoods, to our workplaces ready to put Jesus’ words and being into action: to be the salt of the earth, to be light to the world, to seek justice, to make peace, to preserve the creation, to gain life for all.
The Blessing of the God we know as Creator, Christ and Holy Spirit be upon us all, today and every day. Amen.
