Sabeel Wave of Prayer: Iran, Land Day, Holy Week

Wave of Prayer: This prayer ministry enables local and international friends of Sabeel to pray over regional concerns on a weekly basis. Sent to Sabeel’s network of supporters, the prayer is used in services around the world and during Sabeel’s Thursday Communion service; as each community in its respective time zone lifts these concerns in prayer at noon every Thursday, this “wave of prayer” washes over the world.

A framework agreement between Iran and six world powers on Iran’s nuclear program could be reached soon.   Lord, we pray that a deal will be reached and that the outcome will increase stability in the whole world, but especially in the Middle East region where there is so much conflict, violence, poverty and oppression.  Lord in your mercy…

Palestinians commemorated Land Day this past Monday, protesting Israel’s continued and escalating confiscation of Palestinian land. On Sunday around 100 people arrived at Israeli President Reuven Rivlin’s residence in Jerusalem, the last stop of a march for Bedouin rights. Lord, we pray that Israeli leaders will hear their call to officially recognize the 46 unrecognized Bedouin villages of the Negev and cancel the Israeli government’s plans to resettle an estimated 100,000 indigenous inhabitants.  Lord in your mercy…

This past weekend thousands of Palestinian Christians came together in joyous Palm Sunday celebrations to commemorate  another march— Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Lord, though most Palestinians are barred entry into Jerusalem by Israel and suffer under Israel’s military occupation, we pray that they take joy in Christ ushering in a new covenant based on justice for the oppressed.  Lord in your mercy…

During this Holy week, Christians in Palestine and around the world are preparing to celebrate Easter.  Merciful God, please bless the celebrations, helping us to remember Christ’s sacrifice and find hope in his resurrection.  Lord in your mercy…

We pray alongside the World Council of Churches for the countries of Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore.
