Sabeel Wave of Prayer-Week of Jan. 18

Wave of Prayer: This prayer ministry enables local and international friends of Sabeel to pray over regional concerns on a weekly basis. Sent to Sabeel’s network of supporters, the prayer is used in services around the world and during Sabeel’s Thursday Communion service; as each community in its respective time zone lifts these concerns in prayer at noon every Thursday, this “wave of prayer” washes over the world.

The EU released a resolution this week that distinguishes between the state of Israel and the territories Israel has occupied since 1967. On Monday, U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro criticized Israeli settler violence, saying there are two standards of law in the West Bank. Also on Tuesday, Human Rights Watch published a report listing businesses and corporations which directly benefit from the occupation and settlement expansion in the West Bank.

Lord, we thank you for the recent surge in international recognition about what is happening on the ground here. Please allow these small steps forward to replant the seed of hope in our hearts, God, giving us courage to continue walking on the long road ahead.

Lord, in your mercy…

A new law that disproportionately targets NGO’s within Israel is up for debate in the Knesset this week. This bill affects mainly left-wing, human rights organizations that receive large portions of their funding from international groups.

God of justice, we know that you stand on the side of the weak and oppressed. Gracious God, remind us that the final victory has already been won.

Lord, in your mercy…

The Iran nuclear deal has officially gone into effect, which will hopefully be a step towards a nuclear-free Middle East, and lead to a nuclear-free world.

Lord of all, we rejoice at this first step. We pray that you will replace these instincts of fear with ones of love, forgiveness, and the willingness to grant second chances.

Lord, in your mercy…

Sabeel is joining with Kairos to host a clergy conference this week in Tiberias. The theme is on Palestinian Christian Ecumenical Dialogue, bringing together local clergy from various Christian backgrounds.

God, let your presence and guidance fill those participating, and allow connections to be strengthened among them.

Lord, in your mercy…

We pray alongside the World Council of Churches for the countries of Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey.
