Timothawis Builds a Future Through Entrepreneurship
In Hay El Maadi, a community in Egypt’s Qena Governorate, many young people face an uncertain path when it comes to employment. Opportunities for stable work are limited, and positions in both government and private sectors are often scarce. For young adults eager to build a future, the lack of available jobs can make it difficult to find a way forward.

Timothawis knew this struggle well. Like many others in his community, he searched for steady work but found few opportunities. Rather than allowing these challenges to define his future, he began thinking about another possibility—creating his own source of income.
That opportunity came through the BLESS Sustainable Development Programs, which support individuals and families in building sustainable livelihoods. Through the program, Timothawis received a small microloan designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs start or expand their businesses.
With the loan, Timothawis was able to purchase a machine that prints designs on T-shirts. It was a simple but powerful investment that allowed him to transform his idea into reality. From his small shop, he began producing custom-designed shirts, offering something unique to people in his community.

What started as a modest business quickly became a growing source of income and pride. The shop not only supports Timothawis financially but also gives him a sense of independence and purpose as he builds something of his own.
Timothawis is one of 26 residents in his village who received microloans through the BLESS program to start small businesses. By prioritizing youth and entrepreneurship, the program is helping communities create economic opportunities in places where traditional employment options are limited.
These small businesses strengthen families and local economies, allowing individuals to use their skills and creativity to build sustainable livelihoods.
For Timothawis, the support he received meant far more than purchasing a piece of equipment. It opened the door to possibility—a chance to take control of his future and contribute to the wellbeing of his community.
